Higgins Quasebarth & Partners served as historic preservation consultants to Scholastic Inc. for the construction of their new headquarters in the SoHo-Cast Iron Historic District.  Working with Aldo Rossi, HQ provided design consultation and historical research to help guide the project through the Landmarks Preservation Commission approval process.  The Scholastic Building was one of the earliest clearly modern interventions within a New York City historic district.  Its strong character, contemporary use of steel, and the manner in which it responds to two separate contexts – Broadway and Mercer Street – make it a harmonious fit for its historic neighbors.  The Scholastic Building was completed in 2001.
